Introduction & Objective: This is a descriptive analytical study to assess domestic violence during pregnancy, and its relation to demographic characteristics.

Materials & Methods: 400 subjects were randomly selected from among delivered women admitted in Zeinabieh and Hafez hospitals affiliated to Shiraz university of medical sciences. The data were collected by a questionnaire for demographic characteristics and another questionnaire for domestic violence. The data were collected by interviewing the subjects.

Results: The psychological and physical violence during pregnancy were significantly interrelated  with occupations of husbands low income and smoking  of subjects and their husbands substance abuse psychotic drug consumption and multiple marriage of husbands. Also the economic violence during pregnancy was significantly interrelated with occupations substance abuse and alcohol consumption of husbands. Social violence was related to low education and smoking in subjects and substance abuse psychotic drug consumption and multiple marriage of  their husbands. There was a significant relationship between sexual violence in case of subjects with higher education and psychotic drug consumption of their husbands.

Conclusion: Determination of demographic factors related to domestic violence during pregnancy could help to realize these abuse factors and plan to control them. There is a need for vast research in order to achieve better andrestanding of violence during pregnancy and their  unfortunate outcomes.
