Background and Objective: Chronic heart failure and its physical and psychological consequences, would decrease life hope levels life expectancy among the patients. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of a positivity skill improvement program on life hope levels life expectancy among patients suffering from chronic heart failure.
Materials and Methods: In the present randomized clinical trial, 72 chronic heart failure patients who were hospitalized at the Internal Ward C of Chamran Hospital of Isfahan were selected using a randomized sampling method and then divided into two groups of intervention (n=36) and control (n=36) using the table of random numbers. Positivity skill improvement program was conducted during 6 sessions. The data gathering tool was Snyder’s Hope Scale (SHS), which was completed by the patients in three stages, namely before, right after, and one month after the intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22 through descriptive statistical tests, variance analysis with repeated measures, and multivariate variance analysis. The level of significance was set at P < 0.05.
Results: According to the results of this study, the average score of life hope level and its dimensions in the intervention group showed a significant increase in the immediate post-intervention phase and one month after the intervention compared to before the intervention (P<0.001). However, in the control group, the average score of life hope levels and its dimensions showed no statistically significant difference in the mentioned times (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Considering the effect of positivity skill improvement program on increasing life hope levels in patients suffering from chronic heart failure, it is recommended that nurses perform this intervention for hospitalized heart failure patients.
