Introduction & Objective : Rabies is a viral disease that causes all warm-blooded animals– including man – to be affected. Unfortunately, in developing countries no effective action has been taken to control this disease and just as in the past rabies is still widespread. In Iran, too, the disease is of importance from an economic and health point of view. Therefore this research has been undergone with the aim of determining the situation of epidemiology of the disease in Torbat Heydariyeh.

Materials & Methods: This research is a descriptive study. The information has been extracted from examination forms that had been specifically issued for this purpose and had been filled in at the centers at which animal-bitten victims had called on.The said information was later analyzed using SPSS software.for doing this research,1038 animal bites were selected during the year(1382).

Results:The findings of this research show that animal bites were more widespread among male farmers and cattle rearers in the age group of 26-50 years than among other groups. The incidents were more frequent in spring (%30/8) than in any other season and the highest rates (%29/6) were recorded in Zaveh while the lowest rate (% 2/5) was in Baig district. Moreover, most of the victims were bitten by dogs ( 91/7).

Conclusion:Considering the total findings of the research it is necessary to give public education for prevention of the disease, especially, to the endangered age groups and in areas where the cases were more widespread. Moreover, necessary programs should be made to prevent the spreading of the disease to domestic animals and to control wild animals.
