Introduction & Objective: In psychosomatic medicine, It is believed that is relation between somatic and psycho, because of stressors have role in creating somatic diseases.This effect in relation to cancer were been noticed by researchers. The among of stressors, wife dying, divorce, one of family members dying, disease and work changes (conflict) are examples. In this study was analyzed relation of stressful life events to incidence of cancer in refers to oncology unit in Ramsar Imam Saggad hospital.
Materials & Methods: This study is descriptive-analytical, case & control that did on 100 patients suffering from cancer(case group)and 100 healthy people(control group).The method of data collection was interview. Then the average of stressors scores in case & control groups was analyzed. The tool of this research was “social readjustment Ratiny Holmes & Rahe scale”.
Results: The results was shown that the average of stressors score in the case group was 155.37 and in control group 49.47. The results of t-test showed significant difference between stressors scores in case & control groups(p<0.01).The result of correlation between demographic variables to average of stressors score showed that in case group, The most correlation was between stressful life events to economic status, age, family history and educational status. In control group, the most correlation was between stressful life events to age and gender.
Conclusion: Notice to results of this research, It is said that stressors are as effective and dangerous agents in incidence of cancer. Therfore, activity for intellectual and correct confronting to stressful life events and reducing stressors is necessary.
