Introduction & Objective: Hysterectomy is the second prevalent operation in women after cesarean. According to the studies, more than half a million American women go under hysterectomy operation every year. This research is done to study the indications and methods of hysterectomy in patients referred to the Imam Sajad educational treatment hospital- Yasouj (2008).

Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive- sectional study carried out for a period of one year at Imam Sajad educational hospital. Research population were consisting of all women referring to the operation room of the mentioned hospital for the gynecologic surgeries and the research samples contained those who referred for hysterectomy operative. Data collection were done by information form interviewing patients and their files. Collection data were analyzed using SPSS software and descriptive statistics.

Results: The results showed that , out of 2651 referrers for gynecologic surgeries, 74 cases (2.79%) gone under hysterectomy surgery. The age limits of samples were 33-81 years. The most prevalent cause for hysterectomy surgery in these persons(48.2%) were abnormal vaginal bleeding and the most surgery type(62.16%) were TAH.

Conclusion: The most prevalent cause of hysterectomy in this research were abnormal bleeding and the most common surgery were TAH which the necessity of training in respect of family regulations, doing pup smear and using the laparoscopy procedures in order to promote women health is felt.
