Background and Objective: A core ethical requirement of the emergency system is ensuring the clinical competence of nursing staff. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ clinical competence and emergency nursing-care patient satisfaction.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted with the participation 250 emergency nurses and 432 hospitalized patients within the emergency department of northwestern Iran in 2023.Nurses were recruited using a census method, while patients were selected by quota sampling. Data were collected using three questionnaires nurses’ and patients’ demographic characteristics, The Competence Scale of Actions of Nurses in Emergencies, and the Emergency Nursing-Care Patient Satisfaction Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics in SPSS 26.
Results: A positive correlation was found between nurses’ clinical competence and patient satisfaction (r=0.45, p<0.001). Furthermore, nurses’ age (p<0.001), marital status (p<0.001), participation in professional competency workshops (p<0.001), and work experience (p<0.001) were significantly associated with emergency nursing-care patient satisfaction.
Conclusion: Given the positive correlation between nurses' clinical competence and patients' satisfaction with nursing care in the emergency department, the correlation, It is recommended that nurse managers prioritize the recruitment and retention of experienced, married nurses who have participated in professional competency workshops and possess high clinical competence to optimize patient care in emergency settings.
