Introduction & Objective: Psychological capital is a protective factor for nurses’ psychological well being. The purpose of this study was to determine the protective role of psychological capital against the impact of work- family conflict and spillover on nurses’ psychological well-being.
Materials & Method: This is a descriptive correlational study. Population was the nurses of a public hospital in Esfahan city, in 1392/2013. Using accessible sampling method, 145 nurses were selected. Work- family conflict questionnaire, work- family spillover questionnaire, psychological capital questionnaire and psychological well being questionnaire were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling by means of AMOS version 16.
Results: The findings demonstrated, there was a negative significant relationships between work- family conflict and spillover with psychological capital and psychological well being (p<0.01). Results of structural equation modeling and mediation analysis revealed that psychological capital is a complete and partial mediator variable in the relationship between family- work conflict and work-family spillover with nurses’ psychological well being respectively.
Conclusion: The results revealed that psychological capital as a protective factor could weaken the impact of work- family conflict and spillover on nurses' psychological well being.
