Background and Objective: Rehabilitation nursing interventions can enhance the independence of children with neurogenic bladder and their sense of control and self-confidence. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effect of rehabilitation nursing on the quality of life and self-esteem of children with neurogenic bladder.
Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design was performed on 100 children with neurogenic bladder who were referred to Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital in Tehran in 2025. Convient sampling method was used, and the participants were randomly divided into two intervention and control groups. The intervention group received rehabilitation education for 6 weeks. No intervention was administered to the control group. The Varney et al. (2003) and Cooper Smith (1967) children's quality of life questionnaires were completed before and after the intervention. The collected data was analyzed in SPSS software (version 24).
Results: The total score of quality of life in the experimental group was 47.60 ± 14.15 before the intervention and 52.14 ± 13.18 afterward, whereas the control group scored 47.36 ± 14.13 before and 47.94 ± 14.10 afterward. The total score of self-esteem in the experimental group was 26.90 ± 7.33 at pretest and 31.68 ± 5.90 at posttest, compared to 27.20 ± 6.50 and 28.66 ± 7.47 in the control group, respectively. The ANCOVA test after the intervention showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of total score of quality of life (p=0.000) and self-esteem (p=0.043).
Conclusion: The findings demonstrated that rehabilitation nursing is effective in improving the quality of life and self-esteem of children with neurogenic bladder.
